
Jay Rowan Chief Business Officer
Jay Rowan joined Johns Hopkins University in 2024 as chief business officer. As a strategic partner to Laurent Heller, the divisional business officers, and finance and administration leaders across the university, Jay oversees cross-divisional initiatives and fosters a culture of high performance and collaboration across the F&A teams.
Jay came to Hopkins from Brown University, where he’d served as both chief of staff to the provost and associate provost of strategy. As chief of staff, he worked closely with the provost and senior leaders to coordinate activities across the academic enterprise, enable strategic decision making, and support ongoing efforts to promote scholarship and academic excellence. As associate provost for strategy, Jay managed a portfolio of important initiatives and strategic planning efforts. Prior to Brown, Jay served as a consultant for universities across the country for Huron Consulting Group and, earlier, for the Exeter Group. During his 12 years in consulting, Jay focused on financial transformation, organizational design, strategic planning, and operational excellence.
Jay earned his bachelor’s degree from Brown University with concentrations in medieval cultures and economics, and his MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.
